CIHR Video: Managing Child Concussions - Dr. Dave Ellemberg PhD, University of Montreal

There are an estimated 300,000 sports-related concussions each year in North America, and this estimate is likely low since many coaches and trainers often fail to recognize concussion, particularly when there is no loss of consciousness.

Concussions often lead to neuropsychological dysfunctions that affect memory, attention and executive functions, with symptoms which can last anywhere from days to years. This can significantly interfere with everyday activities.

Dr. Dave Ellemberg of the University of Montreal has extensively evaluated the effects of concussion in athletes and on children. In this video, Dr. Ellemberg talks about the importance of diagnosing a concussion, and the crucial role that proper recovery plays in a child's development.
